"Energy Cost Reduction Kit" Helps You Save on Electricity Bills

how to participate in this activity, please refer to Let's Help You Save Electricity with Your Boiler Heater

All participants in this activity can purchase the related kits at a “special price.”

  • If you are already monitoring solar PV, the grid, and the boiler heater (as a special load) on the IAMMETER platform, you can choose Kit 1.
  • If you are monitoring solar PV and the grid on IAMMETER but not separately monitoring the boiler heater, you can choose Kit 2 or Kit 3.

Three Key Factors Affecting Your Boiler's Electricity Bill

Have you ever paid attention to your water Boiler's monthly electricity costs? These costs are determined by three key factors:

  1. The energy consumption of the water Boiler.
  2. The proportion of the energy consumption covered by solar power.
  3. The difference between grid electricity price and feed-in tariff.

If you have a tank water Boiler (single-phase, maximum power less than 3.7 kW) and a solar PV system, you can use our "Energy Cost Reduction Kit" to help you save money.

Let's assume you previously consumed 10 kWh of energy daily for your Boiler, and 50% of this energy was provided by solar power.

After installing our saving kit, you can set the Boiler to be powered 100% by solar energy (the percentage can be adjusted based on your situation).

If the feed-in tariff is 0.05 AUD/kWh and the grid electricity price is 0.25 AUD/kWh, then this "Energy Cost Reduction Kit" can help you save up to (0.25 - 0.05) * 5 = 1 AUD per day.

You can estimate the potential savings brought by this kit based on your specific situation (base on the "three key factors").

WPC3700 works with IAMMETER energy meter

The "Energy Cost Reduction Kit" adjusts the Boiler's power based on real-time grid power data, so monitoring the grid power is essential.

Monitoring the Boiler's power consumption (Phase C in the diagram) and the solar inverter output (Phase A in the diagram) is optional.

If you monitor these two data (the power of Boiler and inverter) , you will get more detailed reports, such as the self-consumption rate of the solar system and the proportion of solar energy in the Boiler's consumption. However, not monitoring them will not affect the operation of the "Energy Cost Reduction Kit."

Therefore, if you have a three-phase grid and a single-phase Boiler, you only need one three-phase meter to monitor the grid and one WPC3700 set at a minimum.

Comparison with Existing Methods

Adding a Timer

A commonly used method is adding a timer to the water Boiler. The timer turns on the Boiler during periods of high solar generation, ensuring that the Boiler’s energy comes mainly from solar power. The data curve looks as shown below.

img

The potential problems with using a timer are:

  1. You must choose a Boiler with a lower power rating than the solar inverter. For example, if you have a 3.7 kW inverter, it's best to select a Boiler below 2.5 kW.
  2. The timer settings are fixed and cannot be adjusted dynamically, making it highly susceptible to weather conditions. For example, if the timer is set to turn on at 9:30, the solar power generation may be sufficient to power the Boiler on a sunny day. However, on a cloudy day, the solar power generation may not be enough, and electricity from the grid will be required to heat. Once the Boiler has finished heating with grid power, the weather may clear up, and solar power generation will feed back into the grid. This will reduce the system's solar self-consumption rate and increase the customer’s electricity bill.

"Energy Cost Reduction Kit"

The "Energy Cost Reduction Kit" is an upgraded real-time control solution that adjusts the Boiler's power based on real-time grid data.

This kit is especially effective when solar power is low on cloudy days or when solar power fluctuates throughout the day. It ensures full utilization of solar energy, as shown in the chart below (the screenshot comes from a report by an Australian user; see https://imeter.club/topic/606 for details).

Campaign for the First 100 "Energy Cost Reduction Kit" Customers

If you meet the following conditions:

  • Have a single-phase water Boiler under 3.7 kW
  • Have a solar PV system

You can apply to participate in our event on the ”Energy Cost Reduction Kit“.

To apply, simply post a thread in IAMMETER official forum, introducing the "Three key factors" of your water boiler system.

We strongly recommend using the "special load" method to monitor the water Boiler's energy consumption and attaching screenshots of the following three reports when posting.

special load: Monitor the Boiler's power and energy consumption using the "special load" feature.

load consumption analysis: Analyze the proportion of the "special load" within the total load.

Special load source analysis: Analyze the energy consumption of the water Boiler and the proportion of solar power used.

Selected participants in the event will have the privilege to purchase our WPC3700 at a discounted price (if the user has already installed the IAMMETER meter) or the 'Energy Cost Reduction Kit' (if the IAMMETER meter has not been installed previously).
